The Finishing of Lady Amelia | by Scarlett Rains Jan. 08, 2012 | $4.99 | 41970 words | Sample 2% |
| Author bio: ABOUT ME... I'll share that I adore 18th century English history and imagine I'm transported back to that period when I'm writing. I make every attempt to represent the period authentically when I write of it and don't pull punches. As a result, you may find some of my content unusual, but I believe strongly in representing likely characters of the period realistically. HOW DO I CREATE MY CHARACTERS? Character inspirations come to me after reading of a particular event, during the period, that interests me. I often awaken from a sound sleep with a poem or segment of a story telling itself to me quite clearly. I jump up (scare my hubby half to death) and run to my desk to write it all out. At other times, mostly when I'm gardening or just allowing my mind to wander, a character will reveal itself to me with such clarity that I feel as if they are real. When I write of them it's more a sharing of their thoughts then a telling, if you understand my meaning. HOW I KEEP GOING... I'll close with this tidbit...a segment from my dream the other night. Don't be afraid to dream. Fear is a rabid beast with gaping mouth, blood-drenched teeth and a voracious appetite for dreams. Dream on, dear reader! Scarlett |

Caledonii: Birth of a Nation. (Part One: The Great Gather) | by Ian Hall Nov. 14, 2011 | $2.99 | 31083 words | Sample 20% |
| Author bio: I am Scottish, born in Edinburgh, and spent the first 41 years of my life, not far from my fair and bonnie "Athens of the North". I now live in Topeka, Kansas, with my wife (bless her), no pets (don't like 'em), no children (all moved out), and with many gallons of home-made wine bubbling as I write. My biggest acheivement to date (apart from the successful parenting of my darling daughter) is my published novel; "Opportunities: Jamie Leith in Darien." I'm not confined by genres, having equal success in Historical adventure, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Horror and hard hitting gritty crime. I watch far too much football (Don't even think of calling it 'soccer'.) and at times chase a dimpled ball along carefully manicured countryside, with a collection of calibrated, graphite-shafted sticks. I play guitar and sing in a folk/rock band, and would love to have enough money to tour the world's archeological sites until I'm too old to walk. I love to write, and enjoy literary challenges of all kinds. My blog is; http://www.jamieleith.blogspot.com My website is; http://www.jamieleith.com Thank you for your time. Ian. |

The Alchemist's Dream | by John Wilson Oct. 24, 2011 | $2.99 | 62011 words | Sample 10% |
| Author bio: When I read in schools, kids often ask: "Have you always wanted to be an author?" The simple answer is no, I was 43 when my first book (WEET) was published, but I have been an author as long as I can remember. Growing up in Scotland I compensated for a lonely childhood by making up stories in my head and all I do now is write those stories down. History is the trigger for my stories: WWI (Shot at Dawn, And in the Morning), WWII (Flames of the Tiger, Four Steps to Death), or the Wild West (Written in Blood). I firmly believe that the decisions a Roman Legionary (Germania), or a Medieval Crusader (The Heretic's Secret Trilogy), had to make were just as confusing and frightening as any of the decisions we have to make today. That's what I try to bring out in my thirty plus fiction and non-fiction books for kids, teens and adults. |

I've had about twenty-five books published for children and teens, including the popular 'Party Girls' series and, most recently, the 'Swallowcliffe Hall' trilogy. I was inspired to write these historical stories partly by visits to beautiful old English country houses and partly by a silver housekeeper's chatelaine I found when clearing out my late father-in-law's flat. And who knows, maybe partly also by the clifftop boarding school I attended as a teenager, converted from a Victorian mansion with a sweeeping marble staircase and glass cases full of stuffed birds. Now I live in London with my husband, two cats and a dog, and occasional visits from our grown-up sons. |

He has always wanted to write ever since he was a child and now he can't think of anything he would rather do. He gets his most enjoyment out of creating colourful characters and then bringing them to life in humorous situations. History Born into a life of farming, it took a long time and a lot of determination to get away from it, but he thinks he has just about achieved that now. Andy did quite a few things during his career, including agricultural contracting, retail sales, sheep breeding and IT before he somehow became a business analyst working in a city. Oh yes, and at one time he was an expert in grooming cows. It all made sense at the time. One day, he had a eureka moment and upped sticks to South West France. He now lives there on a smallholding where he shares his time equally between his partner, some more sheep, some DIY tools and a set of golf clubs. Despite all the obvious distractions that renovating a big old farmhouse presents, Andy spends most of his mornings writing and that is the bit he enjoys most. |
